Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This may influence which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here's how we make money.
High school and college are often referred to as the “good days,” and it’s easy to understand why. Most of us didn’t worry about paying for rent or food, so we spent our time focusing on having fun with our friends and family. It was also the time in which most of us had our biggest dreams. Life hadn’t quite knocked us in the mouth yet, in any meaningful way, and we had fun and exciting visions of the future.
Along the way, life gets more complicated and tiring, and we lose some of that natural optimism and joy. The good news is that we can all make intentional decisions to foster the best versions of our lives. Even when we have lost some of our youth’s optimism, we can gain it back by creating experiences and making inspired choices.
Finding Your Best Life
Finding your best life also requires a little humility, so we don’t expect this little corner of the internet to change your life. That would be silly. We can help you save time and make simple decisions, each of which might make your experiences just a little bit better. So that’s what we plan to do. It’s estimated that humans make 35,000 decisions every day, which is kind of exhausting when you think about it.
Some of those decisions are more consequential than others, and while some have little impact, others have much more lasting effects than we would ever realize at the moment. Here is the kicker: changing just a few of these decisions every day might accumulate to a more fulfilling life, made of lasting memories and bold choices. These small choices might build into a spark for something bigger and more consequential.
Be Bold And Adventurous
Back in the “good days,” we weren’t worried about taxes, groceries, and rent. Maybe that is why we had the mental energy to try new things, and sometimes do something a little crazy. Most of us lose a bit of that spirit over time. It probably doesn’t help that our bodies start to creak a little more, but this is all the more reason to make bold and adventurous decisions.
This might look different for me than it does for you, and that is perfectly fine. If the adrenaline rush from skydiving makes you feel alive, we say go sign up now before changing your mind. If breaking out a canvas and oil pants centers you, then we say do it sooner than later.
It’s easy to tell yourself that you don’t have enough time, or that you will go for it later, but sometimes you have to make time, and later rarely comes. Whenever you can, make a fulfilling life your priority, and bring those you care about and love.
Do Good With the Way You Live
If 2020 taught us anything, we live in an interconnected world, and the actions of a few can have tremendous ripple effects around the globe. This is true in positive and negative ways. We have all been the recipient of a kind word or generous deed that made our day better, and on a grander scale, we all stand on the progress of the generations that came before us.
On the darker side, who among us has avoided personal information hacked from a mega-corporation? Fortunately, individuals and companies out there are focused on doing good, particularly many of the up and coming companies. In highlighting many of these companies, we hope to share a little light in the world.
That’s why we give special attention to eco-friendly and sustainable products. Very few of us live off the grid as part of a self-sufficient lifestyle, so the reality is most of us are willing participants in the consumer culture. There is no judgment in that statement; instead, it is just a realization that our choices as part of the consumer culture are essential. A common theme running through our reviews is that small decisions add up to significant differences.
Have Fun With Simple Life Choices
The last realization is that we won’t reach our best lives if we take life too seriously. Sometimes, we have to force ourselves out of the fast lane into a slower lane where we can take in the scenery. After all, what’s the point of a road trip, if you don’t enjoy the journey along the way.
This comes more easily for some of us than others. I must admit that I am one that stays so busy and focused that I have to tell myself to breathe when I get tense and find myself holding my breath. Hopefully, a smile comes more naturally for most of you, but even I know my happiness and joy is partially a choice. It is a result of the people I surround myself with and the decisions I make. My happiness and joy partly result from allowing myself to have fun.
If it is right for me, I am sure it is true for you too. Every now and then, it is ok to step aside from your daily to-do list just to enjoy life. In fact, we should routinely do so. This might look like taking a hike with family and friends or perhaps taking a walk by yourself. It might be time spent fireside or poolside reading your favorite book. It could look like developing an eclectic style for your home or wardrobe, which reminds you to enjoy the whimsical side of life.
Enjoying simple pleasures might look like a million different things, but if you are ready to chill to your favorite music, check out the best wifi speakers. If you are interested in adding some whimsy to your house, check out this Nanoleaf starter set.
Better Every Day
If you are searching for the best version of your life, hopefully, you have realized there is no destination. There is only a journey. For some of us achievers, this is hard to live out. It is easy to be so focused on getting to Yosemite, that we are miserable on the road trip. We might get there if we can focus on getting a little better every day. Be bold and adventurous, do good, and have fun.
