Where are Ooni Ovens Manufactured?

Ooni pizza ovens are the standard in the outdoor pizza oven segment. There are few, if any, competitors that offer the number of options that Ooni offers. Whether you are reviewing portable pizza ovens like the Ooni Frya, multi-fuel ovens like the Ooni Pro and the Ooni Karu, or gas-powered ovens like the Ooni Koda, you will quickly find that Ooni has cornered the market.

Where Are Ooni Ovens Manufactured?

Ooni ovens are manufactured in China, even though the company is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the pizza ovens are designed there. The company employs approximately 100 people in their Scotland home.

And before you give the company a hard time about manufacturing in China, you also have to realize that much of the world’s most innovative and advanced manufacturing capabilities are found in China. We shouldn’t be surprised when high-quality products are made in China. They get a bad reputation for selling cheap trinkets, but the reality is that they aren’t given the credit they deserve for their manufacturing capabilities.

The brand got its start after a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1 million, which served as the launchpad for the

Ooni Pro. The company believes that authentic Neapolitan Pizza should be accessible to the masses, in the comfort of everyone’s backyard, and that is exactly what they have provided. If you are looking to make amazing pizza at home, reading an Ooni pizza oven review is a great place to start.

Do you Have to Pay for Shipping For Ooni Pizza Ovens?

Ooni offers free shipping in the contiguous United States for any orders over $35. Ooni boxes are fairly big to ship because they are largely pre-assembled, so you are out of luck on free shipping if you live in Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

If you change your mind about your Ooni, the brand allows 60 days from the date of the receipt for you to request a return. This only applies if the pizza oven is unused and in original packaging, so don’t try to have a big pizza party and return the oven because you are done. :)

How Long Does Ooni Take To Ship?

Products that are in-stock ship pretty quickly. You can expect your order to be shipped within three business days, though this may be delayed in some instances because of COVID or other broad economic factors. Ooni pizza ovens are very popular, so from time to time they have been known to run out of stock, but don’t worry, as they backfill quickly.

They also allow for pre-orders on new products, and any pre-ordered items will ship as the products are available and ready in the warehouse.

What Does Ooni Mean?

Interestingly, the brand name started as Uuni, which means ‘oven’ in Finnish. The company later changed the brand name to ‘Ooni’ because it more phonetically represents the correct pronunciation of the brand name. While the company was founded back in 2012 by Kristian Tapaninaho and his wife, Darina Garland, the company changed the name of the company in 2018, as they started to hit the mainstream. And if you are wondering why the couple originally chose a Finnish word to represent their company, Kristian Tapaninaho is a native of Finland.

How Are Ooni Ovens Powered?

If you are looking to make perfect homemade pizza, and are not sure where to start, rest assured that Ooni is one of the best outdoor pizza ovens available, and unlike their competitors, they offer several fuel options.

If you are looking for an oven that is easy to use, we recommend that you consider the Ooni Koda, which attaches to a propane gas tank, and features a knob that controls the heat. Sometimes it is difficult to precisely manage the heat cooking with wood, wood pellets, or charcoal, but the Ooni Koda makes this much less of an issue.

The Ooni Fyra is a portable pizza oven fueled by wood pellets. The Ooni Fyra will cook 12-inch pizza, so it might not be your first choice for feeding an entire family, but if you are a pizza lover that wants to take the show on the road, the Ooni Fyra is hard to beat. Some people don’t want to deal with a propane tank, so the Ooni Fyra is also a nice option if you don’t want to worry about storing fuels like charcoal or propane.

The Ooni Pro was the original outdoor oven in the brand’s line-up. The Ooni Pro, and the newer Ooni Karu, are multi-fuel ovens that maximize versatility. You can cook with wood or charcoal, or attach the gas burner and cook with propane. The Ooni Pro and the larger Ooni Karu are large enough to cook 16-inch pizza, but there is a smaller Ooni Karu that is more portable and bakes 12-inch pizzas like the Fyra.

Wood-fired ovens must be considered if you are interested in authenticity, but all of the ovens bake delicious pizzas. If your pizza diet currently relies on frozen pizzas and delivery pizzas, your life might be completely turned upside down. Ooni pizza ovens are very versatile cooking ovens, so after you master pizza, you might try bread, barbecue, and desserts, as well.

If you are undecided regarding which fuel source makes the most sense, the multi-fuel ovens offer wood flavoring and versatility, the gas ovens offer ease of use, and the portable oven offers freedom to take your Ooni wherever you might want.

Are Ooni Pizza Ovens Easy To Use?

Like anything worth learning in life, Ooni pizza ovens take a little practice if you don’t routinely cook with open flames; however, once you learn to use your Ooni pizza oven, there will be no turning back. Cooking at high heat on a pizza stone produces that delicious crispy crust that you just can’t replicate with an indoor oven. Pizza cooks quickly at 900 degrees, so make sure you are attentive to your pizza so it doesn’t burn.

That said, if you learn how to properly prepare the dough, and consider cooking at a slightly lower temperature (or pre-cooking your pizza dough before adding toppings), we think you can figure it out pretty quickly. Before purchasing an outdoor pizza oven, consider where you might store the pizza oven, because it is a little larger than a traditional appliance. It might be best to store in a garage or covered area, but you consider one of the portable units if you are short on space.

If you are very concerned you will struggle to learn how to use an Ooni, we recommend you start with gas ovens, like an Ooni Koda, or a multi-fuel pizza oven, so that you try new things as your comfort level grows. Cooking with traditional wood-fired ovens will provide the best flavor, so the multi-fuel Ooni Karu is a great oven because of its versatility.
