It seems like athleisure brands exploded during the pandemic, and for good reason. We no longer needed to wear business casual clothing every day, but a ragged pair of sweatpants seemed a little too lazy. Athleisure brands, such as Vuori, offered a nice middle ground. All of the sudden, it made way too much sense to wear comfortable pants that were neither too fancy nor too lazy. And something about it just seems right, like maybe it should have been this way all along.
Where is Vuori Clothing Made?
We compared Vuori vs Lululemon vs Alo and found that while all three brands make high-quality athleisure wear, Vuori is our favorite because of the casual and functional style. Vuori is made from the most premium materials and manufacturing standards, yet Vuori isn’t as pretentious as some of those other brands that like to remind you they are premium.
Like many other athleisure brands, and clothing companies in general, Vuori’s clothing is made in Columbia, China, and other countries with advanced manufacturing, but before you write Vuori off because the clothing isn’t “American-made,” there is much more you need to understand.
Vuori cares so deeply about ethical manufacturing that they maintain a code of conduct that extends beyond their manufacturing facilities to include all subcontractors and sub-suppliers. As noted further below, Vuori’s code of conduct is quite extensive, touching on child labor, forced labor and human trafficking, wages, environmental sustainability, and more. While you might not love that some of their clothing is made in China, that is a reality of the industry, and the more important question is related to howVuori clothing is made, rather than where the clothing is made.
Is Vuori a Finnish Company?
Ah, so you picked up on the fact that Vuori is a Finnish word? I have to admit that I am impressed. Surprisingly, enough people realize Vuori is a Finnish word that some have wondered whether or not the athleisure brand is also a Finnish company. Vuori is not related to the Nordic country, though, and is in fact based in sunny California, which makes more sense considering the clothing very much fits with the Californian lifestyle.
What does Vuori Mean?
If you’ve seen someone wearing a Vuori pair of leggings at the Yoga studio, or a pair of the Vuori ripstop pants paired with their tech tee around town, you might have looked up what Vuori means. Vuori is indeed a Finnish word that means “mountain”, which is fitting for an athleisure brand designed to help you reach peak performance.
As a company, Vuori is committed to helping its community lead extraordinary lives. The west coast casual aesthetic is matched by the brand’s stature among premium performance apparel companies. Vuori’s athleisure apparel will help you reach the mountain tops both literally and figuratively.
Is Vuori a US Company?
Yes, Vuori is technically based in Encinitas, California, but they are in the northern part of San Diego county, and Vuori is often thought of as a San Diego brand. Encinitas is located in a nearly ideal location, just 25 miles north of proper San Diego, and only 95 miles south of Los Angeles, which is a bit of a fashion mecca in its own right. It’s a great place to be for an emerging apparel brand promoting premium athleisure clothing with a chilled-out California vibe. For those with active lifestyles, you would be hard-pressed to find a better brand for everyday life.
Is Vuori Ethical?
The clothing and apparel industry has a bad reputation for employing unethical manufacturing processes, so while you might love the Vuori Kore short, we understand why you want to know whether or not Vuori’s athletic apparel is made the right way. Top-tier athletic brands like Nike have long dealt with negative headlines, but it is apparent that Vuori works diligently toward being an ethical company that stands tall above other quality brands.
Vuori has built a very detailed code of conduct that cascades its expectations all the way down to subcontractors and sub-suppliers. Not only does the code of conduct cover the bare minimum standards such as a commitment to follow local laws, but the code also goes above and beyond anti-discriminatory standards. Vuori may have a casual apparel vibe, but the brand is very serious about child labor, human trafficking, and wages and benefits in general.
The Vuori code of conduct goes as far as to limit the maximum hours worked per week and requires minimum standards of living in situations where employees may live in dormitories. Vuori apparel projects may not be American-made, but the casual wear performance brand goes above and beyond to ensure fair working conditions for those involved in manufacturing
Is Vuori Sustainable?
We’ve established that Vuori is focused on ethical manufacturing practices, but does that include sustainability? Keep in mind that Vuori doesn’t manufacture their own apparel, but Vuori’s involvement doesn’t stop after choosing their favorite fabric. Vuori requires that its manufacturing partners have written sustainability standards, and that their manufacturing partners assign an authority to review for eco-friendly best practices.
Why Is Vuori So Expensive?
Vuori designs and sells premium athletic wear, and the pricing is in line with other performance athleisure gear, but Vuori might represent more value than you originally think. One of the biggest reasons I am willing to spend more money on performance apparel is comfort and durability. I know I could find cheaper versions similar in function, but the devil is in the details. I know that in the long run, I am likely to save money purchasing clothing that is comfortable, well-made and durable, and that I am happy to wear.
Of course, beyond that, ethical manufacturing isn’t cheap. If you are concerned about the environmental impact or carbon footprint of your favorite pair of joggers, then that is something you must be willing to pay for. In comparing Vuori vs Lululemon vs Alo, you will find that Vuori is perhaps more affordable than the rest.
Should You Buy Vuori Clothing?
If you are looking for a Vuori clothing review, the best review I can give is to share that I’ve added more Vuori to my closet in the last year than any other brand. I am happy to spend my own money onVuori because it represents premium clothing, made with comfort, performance, and refined styling in mind, and made with ethical manufacturing practices. Whether yoga is your thing, or you are looking for a jogger to vibe in around town, Vuori makes active apparel perfectly fit for nearly any lifestyle.
